Public transport plays a key role in allowing you to live, study or work where you want. The more people travel by public transport, the better it is for our environment as well.

Regional public transport authority

Region Skåne is the regional public transport authority in Skåne County, and holds the political and economic responsibility for publicly financed public transport.

Our role is dual: we both, as a public authority, ”order” publicly financed public transport, and carry it out through the Skånetrafiken administration.

Skånetrafiken – Publicly Funded Public Transport

The Skånetrafiken Office for Public Transport runs our publicly funded public transport.

The Office for Public Transport is responsible for the Pågatåg and Öresund trains, yellow regional buses and green city buses, and for transportation services for old/disabled persons in many of Skåne’s municipalities.

Commercial public transport

Private transport businesses may freely run commercial public transport on a regional level, without financial support from Region Skåne.

Region Skåne takes a favourable view of commercial public transport, and shall, as the regional public transport authority, create the conditions needed for commercial public transport to operate.
