Patient safety is a high priority for Skåne University Hospital. The basis of this work is risk awareness, deviation handling and routine analyses. For risky processes and changes, we implement risk analyses, and for serious events and many of the cases reported to the National Board of Health and Welfare as per Lex Maria, root cause analyses are carried out. Thanks to these we can detect basic causes of faults and remedy them, so that no
more deviations occur.
Other prioritised issues include reducing the number of carerelated infections, medication errors, pressure sores and fall injuries. We are also focusing on measures for life-threatening conditions and clearer communication between different care providers. Skåne University Hospital is also participating in a national initiative for increased patient safety.
