ALF Funds

ALF stands for the Medical Training and Research Agreement (Avtal om Läkarutbildning och Forskning), and is a national agreement between the government and seven county councils. There are ALF funds set aside for clinical research that can be applied for annually.

The national agreement was renewed on January 1st, 2015, and one of the new inclusions is a quality-based allocation model. The amount of state funds awarded to county councils shall depend more on the quality of clinical research. Poor quality care can lead to county councils losing their university health care.

Since May 2015, there is also a new regional ALF agreement between Lund University and Region Skåne. Region Skåne and Lund University have agreed to work together to promote the development of health care through a deeper and wider collaboration in research, education, development, and care.
